Monaco midfielder Fabinho has reportedly expressed his wish in leaving the French side with Manchester United understood to be his preferred destination, according to a report The Sun earlier this week.

What's the story?

The 24-year-old midfielder was among the few last year to win the Ligue 1 title with a bright young squad not to leave the club.

With a range of their star players departing after a successful campaign, Monaco had blocked the Brazilian's attempts to leave.

He is now desperate to make the move away from Monaco and has asked the club to grant his wish at the end of the season.

Jose Mourinho is reportedly is interested in adding another high quality midfielder to his squad with veteran Michael Carrick set to join his coaching team and Maroune Fellaini likely to exit.

What will he bring to United?

Midfield has been a real problem area for United this season, particularly the utilisation of Paul Pogba, and Fabinho could be the missing piece of the jigsaw alongside Nemanja Matic.

Offensively capable, bagging six goals and three assists this season, but also defensively sound, spending portions of his Monaco spell at full-back, he could well be the balancing act needed to get the best out of United's record signing - who still seems to lack the discipline to sit alongside Matic in a midfield two.

The Brazilian - who Transfermarkt value at £36million - is strong in the air as well and that has been a real feature of Mourinho's United side, which boasts height and physicality in all departments.

However, United fans wanting more flair in their engine room, paralleling what we've seen from Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva at Manchester City this season, will feel a little underwhelmed.
