Manchester United had their chances to nick a point against Premier League leaders Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday before eventually succumbing to a 2-0 defeat, and midfielder Fred was one of their best performers on the evening.

The Brazil international lined up alongside Nemanja Matic in the middle of the park on Merseyside with the likes of Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba missing, and he was certainly impressive at points during the clash against Jurgen Klopp's men.

Indeed, he was one of their main driving forces in the second half as they went in search of an equaliser with the scoreline at 1-0, shooting just wide on one occasion.

As per SofaScore, he had 96 touches, made two key passes and won eight of the 16 duels he faced against a side that look destined to win the Premier League title.

While the likes of Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk shone for the hosts, one supporter believes that Fred was actually the best player on the pitch.

While that is probably touch too far, the fact he made four interceptions and three tackles, as per SofaScore, from a defensive point of view proves the impact he had on the game.

The big fat United quiz of 2019 - how much do you remember about the last year at Man Utd?

Many others reacted to a stat-based tweet from UtdArena, with one describing him as "a monster", and another going as far as saying "he is our midfield".

That is big praise indeed, but it is also probably a sign of the times of where United are right now, winning just nine of their 23 top flight games this term.

One supporter pointed out that the 26-year-old finally looked to be worth a £52m player, and that isn't something that has been said about him very often during his time at Old Trafford.

More often than not, he has been heavily criticised by his own supporters for his displays, although in general he has shown a clear improvement in recent months.

And it is about time.
