The future of Wayne Rooney has been one of the hot topics of the summer transfer window. As of the time of writing, the England striker remains a Manchester United player but speculation over his future is bound to continue until the window slams shut at the end of this month.
Rooney suffered a stuttering season last year and is said to be unhappy at playing second fiddle to United’s marquee signing and talisman Robin van Persie. At the age of 27 he is reaching the peak of his career and with the World Cup coming up in Brazil this summer, England manager Roy Hodgson will feel the need to pick players who are playing regular first team football. At the moment Rooney doesn’t meet these criteria.
In Manchester United’s first league game Rooney was pictured alone while Manchester United’s players celebrated a goal that he had in fact set up. Reports of disharmony over Rooney’s actions in the squad have been bandied around in newspapers recently and images such as these only add fuel to the fire. Rooney’s relationship with United may be beyond repair, but here are five potential signings to convince the striker to stay at Manchester United.
