Jose Mourinho is confident that his Manchester United side can secure what he calls a ‘statement signing’ during his first transfer window with the club, according to reports from the Manchester Evening News.
The Portuguese manager is hoping he can seal a deal in the coming months that will make ‘everyone sit up straight’ as he looks to build himself a title worthy squad.
The Red Devils’ first signing of the summer Eric Bailly – the highly rated Ivorian defender – became the club’s 5th most expensive ever signing following his £30million switch from La Liga side Villarreal, and now Mourinho will hope he continue to his summer spending in similar fashion.
Already linked with a host of high profile names this summer including the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba, United seem intent on landing themselves a marquee signing that will signal a return to their former glory and once again have them viewed as genuine title contenders.
