Jose Mourinho has had a mixed start to his time as United boss.

According to Guardian reports, Mourinho has claimed his life in Manchester is a disaster because he is away from family and can't escape the paparazzi. But on the footballing front, United are doing okay.

They currently sit six points behind the leaders in the Premier League but were royally humbled away at Chelsea in their last Premier League game.

Things looked brighter on Wednesday evening though, as United beat rivals City in the EFL Cup to progress to the quarter finals. They restricted Guardiola's men and didn't allow the Citizens a single shot on goal.

It may not be as important as the Premier League, but victory was a step in the right direction.

However, the midweek win still raised questions for Mourinho that he must find an answer to before his Red Devils side take on Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday.

Does Juan Mata deserve a starting berth?

Manchester United v Manchester City - EFL Cup Fourth Round

The chant from the Stretford End following the Spaniard's goal against Man City was as follows: "Who's the best player in the Premier League - It's you Juan Juan Juan, it's you Juan Juan."

His record in the Manchester United first XI sure do the chant justice. When the little Spaniard has started for the Red Devils, they've won four out of five matches domestically, drawing the other.

In those games they've notched 12 goals and only conceded 3. Additionally, since his United debut in January 2014 only Rooney has been involved in more United goals.

If these stats don't give him his rightful place in the United line up, what will?

Should Carrick remain in the starting XI?

Carrick

The 35-year-old shares a similarly positive record with Juan Mata.

Whenever the English midfielder starts, United tend to win.

The victory in the Manchester Derby last night made it five out of five for Carrick. Some might argue the opposition has been less competitive in the games Carrick has started but he is clearly a calming figure in front of the back four.

United were rattled last Sunday away at Chelsea as Pogba and Herrera lacked the composure to deal with the relentlessness of the Blues' attacks.

Carrick, on the other hand, is well-proven and during the EFL Cup win even displayed that he has the legs to keep up with Sergio Aguero! Certainly food for thought for Mourinho.

Should the back four remain unchanged?

Daley Blind

United kept a clean sheet against City in the EFL Cup last night, their first since the drab draw away at Liverpool on Red Monday.

Despite losing Eric Bailly to injury and resting Smalling, United played with confidence at the back and didn't even concede a shot on target against their rivals.

Daley Blind and Marcos Rojo might not be a title-winning partnership but they deserve praise for their performance on Wednesday night and they were helped out by hard working full-backs in Antonio Valencia and Luke Shaw.

Whilst the presence of Carrick undoubtedly helped the side, United's defenders stuck to their task manfully and should be trusted for this weekend's clash against Burnley.

Is it worth giving Depay a chance?

Depay

Memphis Depay was signed under previous manager Louis Van Gaal and despite showing glimmers of hope and ability, he is yet to shine in Manchester.

He hasn't been given a real chance under Mourinho but this weekend seems like a good opportunity to give him a run out.

Burnley are a different team away from home and whilst they are expected to stick bodies behind the ball, they don't carry the same potent threat that they seem to at Turf Moor.

If there's an exciting player at United who has the ability to unlock a tight and packed defence, Depay's name is one of the first on the list. This could be the perfect game to give him a chance and show his abilities.
