Free-scoring Aston Villa marksman on Man United’s radar

The Daily Star reports that Aston Villa hitman Christian Benteke has emerged as a potential target for Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United.

The Belgian reportedly impressed van Gaal with his recent performance at Old Trafford in which the Red Devils ran out 3-1 winners, Benteke grabbing Villa’s solitary goal.

United may need to do some significant strengthening up front during the summer transfer window with the futures of Robin van Persie and on-loan Radamel Falcao in serious doubt.

And starlet James Wilson is set to go out on loan.

This could leave Red Devils skipper Wayne Rooney as United’s only recognised striker.

Benteke, 24, has thrived since the appointment of Tim Sherwood, scoring eight goal in his last six games.

However, Villa boss Tim Sherwood admitted on Friday he could be sold, and with two years remaining on his contract, the Midlands club could be tempted to cash in on Benteke if they receive an offer in the region of £25 million.
