Freiburg defender Matthias Ginter says that it is an “honour” to be linked with a summer move to Manchester United.
The German centre-back has recently emerged as a top target for David Moyes, with scouting trips to witness the 20-year-old in action understood to have taken place.
With Nemanja Vidic set to leave the Red Devils this summer when his contract expires, a replacement is high on the club’s wish list heading into what looks likely to be a very busy transfer window when the season ends.
Ginter is already being talked about as one of the Bundesliga’s very best young players, and is thought to be seen as a candidate to fill the void set to be left by the rugged Serbian.
The starlet says that he does not know how serious the interest is yet, but that he is “excited” by the links:
“If it is true, I am of course honoured and excited.” He is quoted by The Express.
“On the other hand, there is still a long way to the summer.”
United may also look to launch moves for defenders such as Eliaquim Mangala of Porto and Benfica’s Ezequiel Garay as Rio Ferdinand’s future remains unclear.
