Wayne’s on the wane… this is the general view subscribed to by the bulk of football fans, who are becoming increasingly frustrated at the Manchester United and England man’s declining performances.
The 30-year-old forward has become such a problem that managers are having to answer questions about his playing position on a weekly basis, while his team-mates are often being played in unfamiliar roles just to ensure his weaknesses are not greatly magnified. It’s been a sad decline for a player once billed as having the potential to be the greatest ever Three Lion.
So, what can be done to save Rooney? Well, Charlie Wyett of The Sun believes the best all-round solution is a move away from Manchester United…
Indeed, he claimed on Sky Sports’ Sunday Supplement show that playing in midfield is Rooney’s future and that he needs to find a club where he will be used in a deeper role.
But where can he go? One would imagine moving to the Chinese Super League or Major League Soccer will all but signify the end of his England career, while there are few Premier League teams able to fund his salary and a transfer fee who are in need of a player like him.
If it happens, it’ll certainly be an interesting transfer!
