On Tuesday England captain Wayne Rooney could make history and become England’s all-time top scorer with one precious goal against Switzerland.
The grand total of 49 goals set by Manchester United legend Bobby Charlton was equaled by Rooney against San Marino on Saturday. The goal was a penalty, which kick started a 6-0 demolition of a San Marino side, which was as poor as ever.
Throughout Rooney’s career he has always been prolific for club and country, and breaking Charlton’s record would emphasise his glittering career. Although it would be a magnificent achievement, there is the ever growing speculation from fans and critics alike that lots of his goals have come against lesser opposition – the San Marino goal being a prime example.
As well as this, it is obvious that England fans will not be content until Rooney wins a major trophy with his country, and this will surely be on his mind for the forthcoming European Championships in France next summer.
Rooney has scored many goals throughout his England career, against all sorts of opposition. But can you name all of the countries the striker has scored against since he made his England bow in 2003?
