According to reports in the Daily Record, Manchester United are ready to sell Luke Shaw during the January transfer window and the player’s representatives have already offered the 22-year-old around to other Premier League clubs.
Well, even though he started and impressed in the 2-1 win against CSKA Moscow in the Champions League at Old Trafford on Wednesday night, Shaw has found first-team minutes hard to come by under Jose Mourinho, who has publicly criticised him one more than one occasion.
The England international’s contract is due to run out next summer and the Daily Record says that Mourinho is willing to offload both him and fellow full-back Matteo Darmian, in order to create room in the squad for new recruits.
The start against CSKA in midweek was his first of the campaign, and he is yet to play a single minute of Premier League football despite being available for selection since the end of August.
The 22-year-old has only played 137 minutes in the Champions League and the EFL Cup, and it seems certain that he will be on his way either in the New Year or next summer, with the Daily Record saying that Mourinho wants to bring Juventus’ Alex Sandro to Old Trafford.
Considering he has often found himself behind Ashley Young, Daley Blind and Darmian in the pecking order on the left, it seems unlikely that the left-back will be handed an extension to his contract.
No matter what he says in the press, Mourinho clearly isn’t a fan of the former Southampton man and an exit looks highly likely.
Well, Everton and Newcastle are two Premier League clubs that may well be looking for a new left-back in January, while the 22-year-old is known to have a close relationship with Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino, and that could happen if Danny Rose leaves.
