According to The Sun, Valencia are closely monitoring Marouane Fellaini's contract situation at Manchester United as the La Liga outfit consider a move.
What's the story?
There is no question that Fellaini is a favourite of United boss Jose Mourinho, but the fact of the matter is that the Belgian will soon enter the final six months of his contract at Old Trafford.
There was a stage where Fellaini was almost a joke figure at United, but the 29-year-old has scored four times and provided one assist in nine appearances this term.
Despite his impressive form, the midfielder will be out of contract at the end of the season, and it is understood that talks over an extension are yet to begin.
According to The Sun, Valencia are keen to land Fellaini on a free transfer, and will approach the experienced midfielder at the start of 2018 with the view to tying him to a pre-contract.
Surely Mourinho wants to keep him?
Fellaini might not be the best player in the world, but there is a reason why Mourinho is such a big fan of the towering Belgian.
There was interest from Turkey during the summer transfer window, but the United boss refused to allow the former Everton midfielder to leave due to his importance to the team.
Fellaini, who is valued at £10.8m by transfermarkt.co.uk, has scored three times in seven Premier League appearances this term, and was rushed back from a knee injury to feature against Chelsea before the international break.
Luke Shaw, Ander Herrera and Juan Mata are also among those that will be out of contract at United this summer, whilst there is speculation surrounding the future of Mourinho.
It is no surprise that a number of clubs are interested in signing a player of Fellaini's experience and standing on a free transfer, but it is very hard to believe that Mourinho would allow one of his favourite players to enter January without a new contract in place.
