Alexis Sanchez is on the road to recovery at Manchester United, according to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Chile international has played just once in the Premier League under Solskjaer - for 27 minutes against Newcastle United - but was ruled out of the win over Tottenham Hotspur with a thigh injury.

What's the word?

Alexis has yet to show his best under interim manager Solskjaer, due to his history of injuries.

The Chilean was already ruled out with a hamstring problem prior to his appointment, missing a total of seven games, including the wins over Cardiff City, Huddersfield Town and AFC Bournemouth.

Alexis made a short-lived comeback against the Magpies, laying on an assist in the 2-0 victory, and also featured in the FA Cup victory over Reading. But he tweaked his hamstring in that game and was absent from the 1-0 win over Mauricio Pochettino's side at Wembley.

And Solskjaer claims that the forward is nearing a comeback this weekend, telling reporters, per the Daily Mail: "Alexis has trained all week so hopefully he'll be available.

"A player loves to play football, it doesn't matter who you are, and he's been hindered by injury. I know how frustrating that can be and how eager you are to get back..."

He added: "But he's champing at the bit in training. His attitude has been fantastic in training and I'm looking forward to seeing him, I've got loads of good players to choose from."

Bad news?

Jose Mourinho struggled to fit Alexis Sanchez into his team at the best of times.

The former Arsenal winger has struggled for form thus far this season, scoring just once.

Indeed, he has yet to complete 90 minutes in the Premier League; Mourinho found it difficult to crowbar Alexis into his XI, and Solskjaer is likely to face a familiar challenge.

Marcus Rashford has enjoyed an upturn in form under the Norwegian, usually through the middle, while Anthony Martial has also featured regularly.

Sanchez though, could disrupt that harmony; his struggles this season do not make him a candidate for automatic selection, especially with the performances of those in front of him.

The Chilean has to earn his way back, and Solskjaer would do well not to fall into the trap that regularly ensnared Mourinho.
