Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has revealed that Phil Jones will miss at least the club's next two matches as he battles to overcome a thigh problem.

Jones required six pain-killing injections to represent England in their international friendly with Germany earlier this month.

The centre-back, who is valued at £16.2m by transfermarkt.co.uk, was forced off in the same match, and missed United's 4-1 win over Newcastle United in the Premier League at the weekend.

The 25-year-old did not travel with his teammates for Wednesday's Champions League match against Basel, where the Red Devils will look to qualify for the round of 16.

Mourinho, speaking at his pre-match press conference, confirmed that Jones would miss the Basel match, and also ruled the England international out of Saturday's Premier League clash with Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford.

It is unclear when Jones will return to the field, although Mourinho did claim that fellow centre-back Eric Bailly, who also picked up an injury during the international break, was in line to face Brighton.

Chris Smalling could be joined by Victor Lindelof and Marcos Rojo in defence for the clash with Basel in Switzerland.
