Juve eye Hernandez should they fail to land Luis Suarez

Man Utd's Javier Hernandez

Juventus have lined up Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez as their back-up option if they fail to sign Luis Suarez.

The Serie A club are currently looking for a strike partner for Fernando Llorente, who will join the club on a free transfer in the summer. Although Suarez is their number one target, the Italian champions have identified Javier Hernandez as the next best thing. With the Mexican struggling to get a regular starting place in the team this season, Chicharito may be looking to move clubs in the summer.

Hernandez has only made 15 appearances for United in the league this season, and has rarely lasted the full 90 minutes. With Juventus announcing their interest, the striker could be tempted to leave the club.

Suarez’s future has been under huge speculation recently, despite signing a contract extension in August keeping him at the club until 2018. The striker has made comments whilst home in Uruguay for international duty, that have raised doubt over his Liverpool career, according to the Daily Mail:

“I am very happy at Liverpool but you never know in football. If another team comes around with more prospects of competing in international club competition games, which is willing to have me, they are welcome.”

Liverpool’s managing director Ian Ayre rubbished talk that the striker could leave in the summer, reiterating the club’s desire not to sell the 26-year-old, who has already scored 22 times for Liverpool in the league this season.

For now Suarez will have to focus on his national team, with World Cup Qualifiers against Paraguay and Chile coming up, whilst Hernadez could feature in Mexico’s matches against Honduras and the USA.
