According to TyC Sports, Manchester United have had a huge bid for Kalidou Koulibaly rejected by Napoli.
As per the aforementioned report, the Red Devils offered a fee of $103m (£77m), which would have eclipsed the record £75m fee for a defender paid by Liverpool to secure the services of Virgil van Dijk (BBC). However, the Serie A club turned down United’s approach and are apparently unwilling to accept an offer of anything less than £89m.
Whether or not the Premier League giants return to meet the demands of Napoli remains to be seen.

However, it is clear that Jose Mourinho’s squad is in dire need of defensive upgrades, and Koulibaly’s arrival could have a galvanising effect at Old Trafford, as van Dijk did at Anfield.
The towering 6’5” Napoli centre-back has been in fine form for the Italian outfit of late and in recent seasons has developed into one of the finest and most reliable defenders in Europe.
Mourinho’s side have been shambolic at the back so far this season, leaving them with a negative goal difference total and in eighth place with 12 Premier League games played. The likes of Eric Bailly, Victor Lindelof, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling, amongst others, have all failed to impress at the heart of the United rearguard.
Koulibaly would undoubtedly improve things, and the 27-year-old’s leadership and authority could raise the game of his teammates too. That being said, the 29-cap Senegal international certainly won’t come cheap and the United hierarchy have failed to back the Portuguese boss in the market before.
