Key defensive injury boost for Man United ahead of crunch Liverpool clash

Manchester United have received a double injury boost as two first-team stars close in on a return to fitness, report the Daily Mail.

The Red Devils are set to welcome back both Ashley Young and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, who have both returned to training.

Young, utilised as a makeshift defender by Louis van Gaal, has not appeared since January and recently went under the knife for a groin problem in America.

It is finally some reprieve for the beleaguered Old Trafford chief, who has seen his squad decimated by injuries this term.

England internationals Wayne Rooney, Luke Shaw and Phil Jones remain sidelined, though young defender Borthwick-Jackson has also returned.

Despite only making his first-team debut amid the injury crisis earlier this season, the 19-year old left-back has impressed during his short career at the Theatre of Dreams.

With van Gaal facing the unenviable task of having to reverse a 2-0 deficit against Liverpool in the Europa League tomorrow night, a double defensive boost will surely come as welcome relief.
