Manchester United managed to secure the signatures of three players in the summer transfer window – Nemanja Matic, Romelu Lukaku and Victor Lindelof – but Jose Mourinho reportedly wanted four.
The Portuguese strengthened the spine of his team but the one that got away was Ivan Perisic. Mourinho reportedly wanted to sign the experienced Inter winger but was not able to get his man.
Of course, Alexis Sanchez has since signed to provide Mourinho with another wide option but the rumours surrounding Perisic’s arrival at Old Trafford have continued to swirl.
Yet, there are still better wide options than the 29-year-old out there for United and one of those is Atletico Madrid winger Koke, who is valued at £63million by Transfermarkt.
We’ve taken a look at the numbers behind the Spaniard’s performance as Diego Simeone’s side saw off Marseille in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie against the French outfit, in which he scored after just one minute.
With five key passes and seven crosses, it is clear that Koke is a man who can influence proceedings in an attacking sense but he also works as hard defensively as Simeone requires to suit his regimented and disciplined approach.
That will surely appeal to Mourinho as much as the 66 passes, as he grapples with widemen in Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford who sometimes struggle with the other side of the game.
