A renegade group of Manchester United supporters’ plot to tunnel under Old Trafford has been foiled by Greater Manchester Police.
The gang, who call themselves Moyez 2 Men, began digging on Sunday in order to reach the centre circle by 19.45pm – just as United kicked off their quarter final first leg clash with Bayern Munich.
The four men, who all come from Surrey, were caught after former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson heard suspicious noises emanating from underneath his office.
“We can confirm that four men have been apprehended as they dug their way underneath Old Trafford,” Greater Manchester Police Commissioner Tony Lloyd said.
“I think we all agree with their sentiment, but not only is digging a long and arduous task, they also would never have made tonight’s kick off time at the rate they were going.
“David Moyes is safe and sound in the depths of Old Trafford, and luckily he still has no idea what’s going on both on and off the pitch.”
This is the latest in a long line of protests against David Moyes, after a plane flew over United’s 4-1 victory over Aston Villa with the message; ‘Wrong one – Moyes out’.
Reports that Manchester electrical stores have also started stocking ‘Moyes-cancelling headphones’ are as yet, unconfirmed.
