Manchester United's interest in James Maddison has been an ongoing saga but whether he makes any move remains to be seen.

After all, the Red Devils snapped up Bruno Fernandes in January so it might not seem viable for the club to sign two attacking midfielders in quick succession.

However, latest reports suggest the Leicester midfielder wants the move and during the Foxes' clash with Manchester City, United fans were keen to praise the youngster for the performance he was turning in.

The England hopeful was in a vibrant mood as he went close with a free-kick and also played a delicious key pass in a first-half that finished 0-0.

It was a display that led one supporter to claim he was the best player on the pitch; fine praise indeed considering he was coming up against the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Aguero. A further supporter claimed the 23-year-old was putting on a clinic in how to play football.

One piece of reaction centred around just how good Maddison is at creating opportunities for his teammates.

This is something the Leicester star has become renowned for in recent years, conjuring up as many as 100 key passes in the Premier League last season.

Separating the fairweathers from real fans: How much can you remember about United's treble season?

This term, he's provided 67 key passes in the league before this weekend - a tally that put him fourth in the division. De Bruyne had as many as 94 heading into the weekend's action.

Consequently, United would undoubtedly benefit from someone with the qualities Maddison possesses.

A healthy debate also took place over whether Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men should sign the Leicester midfielder or Jack Grealish.

One supporter hoped the Red Devils added both to their squad, although two fans were quick to provide the viewpoint that Grealish wasn't as good.

Both players are incredibly similar, but it's actually the Villa player who possesses more key passes in 2019/20. Before the weekend's action commenced, he'd created two more opportunities than Maddison.

The Sun claimed earlier this month that both of the creative midfielders were on Manchester United's wishlists - deals that could see Ed Woodward end up parting ways with £160m.

Whether or not the duo end up making the move to Old Trafford will be interesting to monitor. Either way, United would be getting their hands on two of the most exciting players in English football.
