Manchester United may have ended their poor run of form with a 1-0 victory over Manchester City in the EFL Cup, but one man was left unimpressed by the Red Devils' victory.

Despite Juan Mata's goal sealing Jose Mourinho's side a place in the quarter-finals of the competition, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher stated he expected to see more from United given the calibre of City side they faced.

"They're not playing Man City, they're playing Man City reserves. Let's be honest now."

Manchester United fielded a very strong side that included £89m man Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic and, although City did hand chances to younger players, they fielded a big-money addition of their own in Leroy Sane and the in-form Kelechi Iheanacho completed their attack.

Twitter was split on Carragher's comments, with many United fans condemning his views as being biased whilst others agreed that United should have been able to secure a win by a more comfortable margin.

In the end, though, you can only beat the side you're put up against and Manchester United got what they were aiming for.
