Long term Man United target delivers blow

Long term Manchester United target Kevin Strootman has agreed a new deal with Roma, according to the Daily Star.

The Dutch dynamo has been extensively linked with a move to Old Trafford ever since Louis van Gaal was appointed manager at the club, the pair having worked together at national level.

The 25-year old central midfielder has suffered a spate of long term knee injuries since moving to the Italian giants, but has been offered an extension on his deal.

He shot to prominence playing for PSV Eindhoven his homeland, before moving to the Serie A giants in 2013.

United boss van Gaal appointed Strootman captain of the Oranje during his stint, though he missed the 2014 World Cup in Brazil through injury and subsequent injury.

Rumours have lingered ever since van Gaal arrived in Manchester, though a new deal in Italy is likely to come as a blow to the Red Devils.
