Jose Mourinho is known for joining a club and mixing things up instantly.

It's been no different at Manchester United and he seems to have picked a fight with two English defenders already.

Chris Smalling and Luke Shaw have been in the spotlight for 'backing out' of a fixture against Swansea City.

It's been announced that Smalling has actually suffered a broken toe, which has left the Portuguese coach with a bit of egg on his face.

In terms of Shaw though, whilst it may have been tough for the English left-back to come to terms with his ordeal of last season when a broken leg ruled him out, he must continue to be brave and fight.

There was huge hope when Shaw signed for United a couple of seasons ago and whilst it hasn't been totally diminished yet, this story may rumble on for quite a while.

In the meantime, if Mourinho does decide to look elsewhere for his long-term left-back, here's a few that fit the bill.

Leighton Baines

Leighton Baines

When David Moyes took the Manchester United job following the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson, he requested that the Kirkby-born left-back join him in departing Everton.

However, the bid to sign him failed and Baines remained a Toffee.

Now at the age of 31, Baines is certainly coming to the end of his career.

However, he still has a lot to offer and there's no doubting his ability. He is still considered as one of the best left-backs in the country, defensively sound whilst pitching in with goals and assists.

If Shaw is to leave Old Trafford and Mourinho is looking for a short term solution, Baines could be it.

Fabio Coentrao

Whilst manager at Real Madrid, Mourinho signed the Portuguese left-back.

He featured frequently under Mourinho during his time in Spain, making 63 appearances in two seasons.

However, following Mourinho's departure from Madrid in order to return to Chelsea, the Portuguese left-back found opportunities at the Bernabeu limited.

He has since moved to Monaco for a loan spell but is now back at Madrid and United could do with his services.

If United want to sign a left-back with a lot of potential but also plenty of Premier League experience then they need look further than Aaron Cresswell.

He won Player of the season whilst at Ipswich Town in 2012 before opting to join West Ham two years later

He has impressed for the Hammers over the past couple of years and has been really missed when absent due to injuries.

He returned to the Hammers line up for their huge win away at Crystal Palace earlier this season in which he assisted the only goal of the match before also finding himself sent off.

Nevertheless, the 26-year-old Liverpudlian would be a good replacement for Luke Shaw.

Ricardo Rodriguez

United will be familiar with Rodriguez as he featured for the Wolfsburg team that eliminated the Red Devils from the Champions League last season.

United needed to better the result of PSV Eindhoven to progress from their group, but defeat at the hands of the Wolves resigned United to a place in the Europa League.

The 24-year-old Swiss full-back was very impressive in the match as he assisted the first Wolfsburg goal with a very inviting free kick.

He has made over 150 appearances for Wolfsburg despite sill being relatively young and is the sort of player Mourinho would enjoy working with.

Andrew Robertson

Andrew Robertson

Like Cresswell, another player with Premier League experience who could replace Luke Shaw is the impressive Hull City left-back Andrew Robertson.

The Scotsman has made 86 appearances for the Tigers and whilst he is yet to score in the Premier League, he is defensively able and but does have a great knack of getting forward and causing a nuisance.

He was instrumental in helping Hull get out of the Championship and was arguably one of the players of the season.

At only 22-years-old, there's also plenty to come from the full-back and if he continues to flourish there's no way he'll stay at Hull for too long.

United could do a lot worse than making a move for him.
