LVG staying at Man United? Dutchman to be handed £80m with Everton star top target

Manchester United are ready to hand Louis van Gaal a summer transfer budget of close to £80m, with Everton’s Romelu Lukaku the top target, according to reports from De Telegraaf.

The Dutchman has been under a massive level of pressure at Old Trafford this season amid an underwhelming campaign, with speculation suggesting that Jose Mourinho is in line to replace him in a few months’ time having been doing the rounds for a while.

Indeed, a ‘pre-contract agreement’ is thought to be in place between ‘The Special One’ and Man United, but the latest reports hint that Van Gaal may be staying put, with the club willing to hand him a transfer budget of €100m (£79.9m) for the coming window, with Lukaku the top target.

It’s understood that LVG has been given assurances by the Manchester giants’ hierarchy as he heads into the last year of his contract, and that Everton’s Belgium international is the man he wants to ease United’s goalscoring issues.

The North West heavyweights are the lowest scorers in the Premier League’s top seven this term with 39 goals, while Lukaku himself has smashed 25 in all competitions for the Toffees.

Van Gaal’s approach has angered many fans this season, but the mood has turned a little of late following the rise of teenager, Marcus Rashford.
