Manchester United look set to hang onto David de Gea, with Carlo Ancelotti having ruled out a move to take him to Real Madrid.
The Spanish stopper has recently emerged as a Los Blancos target, amid concerns about Iker Casillas’ form and future at the club, on the back of his consistent displays in the Premier League.
Although De Gea struggled initially in English football after joining United from Atletico Madrid in 2011, the goalie has matured into one of the division’s better glovesmen, with his showing during the Red Devils’ last outing against Everton particularly impressive.
Louis van Gaal is reportedly keen on tying him down to a new long-term contract, and it appears that there will be little opposition from Real after Ancelotti’s comments on the situation:
“The national side is different to Madrid. We’ve got other keepers here. We don’t want a transition.” He told AS.
With Casillas’ form having dipped and Victor Valdes having suffered a serious knee injury, De Gea is now considered to be a vital member of Spain’s international set-up.
