Man United ace set for crunch talks with Mourinho following £30m arrival

According to reports from Goal, Jose Mourinho has requested a meeting with defender Phil Jones to clarify his future at Manchester United.

The England international was deemed one of the most exciting youngsters in world football when the Red Devils signed him from Blackburn Rovers in 2011.

He signed a new contract last year but the 24-year-old’s Red Devils career has fizzled out since then amid a series of injury problems, to the extent that he missed out on a place in Roy Hodgson’s Euro 2016 squad.

The recent arrival of centre-back Eric Bailly from Villarreal, at a cost of £30million, has cast further doubts over the versatile defender’s future at Old Trafford and Mourinho is consequentially looking to clear the air.

However, Goal believe the Portuguese gaffer wants to assure Jones that he will have a place in United’s first-team squad next season, largely due to his positional flexibility around the back six.
