Manchester United have agreed a deal to sign Valenciennes defender Dayot Upamecano, according to reports from the Metro.
The 16-year-old has reportedly been a target for French giants Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain in recent weeks, but is on the verge of a £340,000 switch to Old Trafford before tonight’s 11pm deadline.
The Metro are also reporting that the fee could rise to around £700,000 if the centre-half reaches the potential expected of him, with Man United scouts seemingly impressed with what they’ve seen of him.
The same report suggests Upamecano would go straight in to the Old Trafford youth set up, but could force his way in to Louis Van Gaal’s first team plans within a couple of years.
The Metro describes the youngster as a ‘tough, strong and energetic centre-back,’ and it is an indication that Van Gaal has one eye on the Red Devils. youth structure as well the immediate fortunes of his Old Trafford side.
