Man United already facing battle to keep midfield star

Manchester United could lose Juan Mata just 12 months after breaking their transfer record to sign him from Chelsea, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

The Spaniard was snapped up in a £37.1m deal earlier this year, which is a fee only beaten recently by Angel di Maria’s move to Old Trafford.

And with the Argentine in, as well as Radamel Falcao, to add to United’s wealth of attacking options, Juventus are hopeful of luring the playmaker to Italy when the transfer window re-opens.

The Old Lady believe that Mata may be the one to make way for the new duo while keeping Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie on the pitch, with a £24m offer in the pipeline.

Juve are keen to bolster their ranks as they plot to continue their reign as Italian football’s top dogs, and are ready to spend in order to do so.

Louis van Gaal may be tempted by offloading Mata, with the fee he could bring in likely to be used to pursue Kevin Strootman this winter.

The cash could also be handy for the club’s moneymen, who bankrolled the summer spend on the proviso that LVG will get them into the Champions League for the 2015/16 campaign.
