Manchester United are in a good position to mount a shock challenge for the Premier League title, according to club idol Paul Scholes.
After a difficult start to the season under Louis van Gaal, the Red Devils have surged up the table of late, claiming 22 points from the last 24 on offer – a draw with Aston Villa was their only slip.
Such form has pushed United up the division and into third spot, behind only league favourites Chelsea and Manchester City.
Although they remain ten points adrift of the summit and a top four finish is the ultimate aim at Old Trafford, Scholes believes that his old club could mount a genuine bid to win the big prize if they can maintain their form over the coming weeks:
“If United win their next two games, I wouldn’t be surprised if they do what Liverpool did last year – go on a great run, a big run, and put pressure on the top two.” he is quoted by The Mirror.
“Then, once you get to the Champions League, United will have the free weeks and hopefully they can take advantage.”
