Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal spoke directly with a former Anderlecht manager last month to discuss whether or not Lucas Biglia is good enough to play for his side.
The Red Devils have been linked with the Argentine midfielder for much of the summer, with recent reports claiming that a £17.5m deal is very close.
Biglia currently plies his trade with Italian side Lazio, and was a key player in Rome last season as the club finished in Serie A’s top three, thus qualifying for the Champions League.
Prior to moving to the Stadio Olimpico he shone in Belgium with Anderlecht, and respected HLN Sport reporter Kristof Terreur has claimed that Van Gaal has been in personal contact with a former manager of the club regarding Biglia’s suitability ahead of a possible move:
He tweeted: “Louis v Gaal called a former Anderlecht manager at the beginning of July. He has 1 question: “Is BIglia good enough for #MUFC?””

Any move for Biglia would come as a bit of a surprise, with United having invested heavily to sign midfielders Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin already this summer.
