Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has dropped a major hint that a deal for Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale is on the club’s agenda.
The Welsh star – the current most expensive player on the planet following his £86m move to Spain from Spurs last year – has emerged as a shock target for the Red Devils in recent weeks, amid rumours that Old Trafford chiefs are willing to commit to a ‘Galactico’ era of big name stars and massive spending.
A fee in the region of £120m has been mooted for the winger, with some reports even suggesting that the player himself would consider an end of season move back to England.
Although a transfer has widely been branded as far-fetched, when quizzed on the situation, Van Gaal hinted that he has been talking with United chiefs about Bale:
“I cannot discuss that. I discuss that with my CEO and not anyone from the media.”

Bale has enjoyed a fine 18 months in Madrid, with a vital goal in the Champions League Final having helped his side to claim their tenth European Cup.
However, there has been some talk this season that manager Carlo Ancelotti is not convinced by the Welshman’s contribution to his team.
