Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho could revive his interest in Everton’s John Stones over the coming weeks, amid fears surrounding his current backline options, according to reports from The Times.
The Red Devils boss has already splashed the cash since stepping into the dugout at Old Trafford, luring in Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrikh Mkhhitaryan and centre-back, Eric Bailly.
Even though the latter cost a whopping £30m, reports claim that Mourinho is yet to be convinced by his rearguard options at Man United, which could lead to him reviving his long-term interest in Stones.
‘The Special One’ was in charge of Chelsea when they had multiple big money offers for the 22-year-old rebuffed last year, and it’s claimed that he might look back towards the Everton ace.
A move for Stones would put Man United in direct competition with bitter rivals Manchester City, who are thought to be plotting a swoop for the £50m+-rated ball-playing defender.
The Times also suggest that Marcos Rojo could be sold, while Phil Jones will be given a chance to impress.
Chris Smalling would appear to be the most likely partner for Stones should he move up the M62 to the red half of Manchester.
