Man United boss prepared to ditch one South American ace in favour of another

The Daily Star are reporting that Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal will send loanee Radamel Falcao back to Monaco at the end of the season with a view to signing Paris Saint-Germain ace Edinson Cavani instead.

The Old Trafford side are believed to be long-time admirers of the Uruguayan and were interested in signing him a year ago while David Moyes was in the managerial hotseat.

Although Red Devils chief executive Ed Woodward set out to Paris to try and land Cavani at that time, no deal could be completed and the 28 year-old remained at the French club.

However, it is understood that Dutchman van Gaal has been given the go-ahead to make another move for the attacker in a multi-million pound deal that would make him one of the most expensive signings in Premier League history – provided the club secures a top four finish.

United currently sit in third place in the Premier League with 47 points, two points and places above Arsenal, who occupy fifth.
