Man United boss reveals trophy aspirations

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has played down his side’s chances of winning the Premier League but admits he has his sights firmly set on winning the FA Cup, the Express reports.

The Red Devils beat Cambridge 3-0 at Old Trafford last night to set up a fifth round test against Preston North End, and the Dutch boss has revealed that the FA Cup is the only realistic chance of winning silverware this season.

He said: “It’s another title and that I like.

“I want to win always a title in a season. I think that is our greatest chance to win a title… not only for me but more for Manchester United, the fans and the players.”

The earlier eliminations of title rivals Chelsea and Manchester City have made the Red Devils and Arsenal favourites to pick up the trophy this year.

Although United currently sit third in the Premier League, they still trail leaders Chelsea by ten points and second placed Manchester City by another eight, which all but rules them out of the title race.

But United have a real chance of winning their first FA Cup trophy since 2004, when they beat Millwall 3-0 at the Millennium Stadium.
