Man United boss rubbishes talk of move for top target

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has responded to rumours of a move for Dortmund defender Mats Hummels by insisting that there will be no new additions at Old Trafford before the close of the transfer window.

Reports over the course of the past few days have linked the Red Devils with a late swoop for Hummels – who has been the club’s major defensive target for some time – with discussions surrounding a fee thought to be taking place.

Hummels himself has not suggested that he wants to leave the Westfalenstadion, but the club’s struggles in the Bundesliga – they currently sit in the division’s relegation zone – is seen as a worry for a number of top stars.

However, LVG has ruled out major additions for the rest of the current window, insisting that Victor Valdes – signed on a free transfer – will not be joined by any other stars:

“I read every day that I or United are interested in other players,” he is quoted by The Metro.

“We only have under contract now Victor Valdes. We gave him a chance. We are only selling players, not buying them.”
