Man United boss willing to backtrack on plans to axe big name players if they impress

Jose Mourinho is willing to give the likes of Juan Mata and Daley Blind a chance to secure a Manchester United future at the club during pre-season, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

The Portuguese boss is now officially in the dugout at Old Trafford and speculation surrounding the players that will be key in his reign has been rife of late.

With Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Eric Bailly all signed, and rumours of a £100m move for Paul Pogba doing the rounds, it seems likely that a few of Man United’s big name players will have to be shifted on to clear space and funds.

Mata and Blind, among others, have been highlighted as two that could be let go of, but reports claim that Mourinho has not made his mind up on the pair and will assess them during pre-season.

As well as the Spaniard and the Dutchman, giant midfielder Marouane Fellaini will be playing for his future.

Mourinho has been ruthless with Mata in the past, selling him to Man United just six months into his second spell at Chelsea, despite the playmaker having been the Blues’ best player for the two seasons prior to his arrival.
