Man United close in on Dutch star

Manchester United have opened talks for Daley Blind with Ajax, according to reports from The Metro.

The full-back starred for Louis van Gaal’s Holland side during the World Cup, attracting much attention from a host of big European clubs.

Despite the arrival of Luke Shaw, LVG is believed to be keen to add another player to his options on the left-hand side of his defence, with Patrice Evra rumoured to be on Juventus’ radar.

A fee is yet to be agreed with Ajax, but talks are progressing surrounding a deal.

Blind is likely to jump at the chance of moving to one of the continent’s top leagues, but United may face competition from Barcelona and Liverpool for the son of former Netherlands player, Danny.

The Amsterdam giants are ready to sell for around £20m, with the ace’s showings in Brazil having boosted his reputation and value.

Blind is also able to play in midfield, a role in which he was frequently used last season.

Van Gaal has suggested that he’s willing to wait before making additions to his squad after officially taking control at United last week.
