Manchester United could anger bitter rivals Liverpool with a move for Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who is being eyed as a potential replacement for David de Gea, according to reports from Mundo Deportivo.
The Germany international has been at the Nou Camp since the summer of 2014, but his spell with the Catalans has not been the success story he would have hoped for on a personal level.
Granted, Ter Stegen starred as Barcelona won the Champions League and Copa del Rey in his debut term, but he played a minimal role in their successful La Liga campaign, with his status as ‘cup keeper’, having afforded him far less game time than fellow stopper, Claudio Bravo.
As a result of this, and Simon Mignolet’s flappy showings, Liverpool have been aligned with a £19m move for the ex-Borussia Monchengladbach man this summer, but reports claim that Man United are also considering the 23-year-old.
It’s understood that the Red Devils – who may also face competition from Arsenal and Manchester City – see Ter Stegen as a potential successor to De Gea, who has been heavily linked with a switch to Real Madrid for some time – he agreed a move to the Bernabeu last year only to see the deal collapse.
