The Red Devils are set to end their long-term association with Nike to don a strip made by the German sports giants starting from next season, which will further boost the club’s transfer coffers – they spent an all-time transfer window record £156m last summer.
The deal will be the biggest on the planet – dwarfing the company’s other agreements with Real Madrid and Chelsea, and a source close to the arrangement told the Daily Mail that the funds coming in means that no player on the planet will be out of United’s reach:
“It’s no secret that after this, nobody is off limits.”
Interestingly, with Messi, who has been linked with a stunning move away from Barca – also sponsored by adidas as one of their biggest names there has been some talk of a transfer.
The same source when quizzed on whether or not the arrangement could ease the Argentine’s passage to the Theatre of Dreams said:
“It certainly would not hinder it.”
Messi is valued at around £200m, which adidas could help United to pay.
