Man United delve into battle for £32.5m ace

Manchester United have joined the race for Aston Villa’s £32.5m-rated striker Christian Benteke, according to reports from talkSPORT.

The Belgium international enjoyed a terrific end to the season just gone, with the arrival of Tim Sherwood the catalyst for a fantastic late run in which the hit-man notched 12 goals in his last 13 games.

Liverpool have been heavily aligned with a move for his signature, but as reports have surfaced that they’re looking at other targets United’s interest in Benteke has been revealed.

Reports claim that Louis van Gaal’s side have approached Villa to discuss a deal, but the player’s £32.5m release clause – which Sherwood has claimed will need to be triggered – is an issue.

United are reluctant to match such a figure, however, their interest may not die out with a deal still possible.

It’s understood that Benteke is not the top target at Old Trafford, although a striker is needed with Radamel Falcao’s exit having left LVG short of options.
