Manchester United have made an initial enquiry ahead of a potential move for £30m-rated Chelsea-linked Roma defender Kostas Manolas, according to reports from the Daily Mail.
The 24-year-old has been heavily aligned with the Blues amid the Antonio Conte rumours, and his subsequent appointment as Guus Hiddink’s successor, after a solid spell in Serie A.
However, with United set to announce the arrival of former Stamford Bridge boss Jose Mourinho, the club are stepping up their pursuit of the centre-back.
It is believed that a tentative approach has been made, although the club may have to pay £30m to secure his signature from the Rome giants this summer.
Mourinho is expected to reinforce all aspects of the Man United squad upon his arrival, but is likely to focus on his defence given his style of play.
Manolas made 45 appearances in all competitions for his side last term, scoring a total of two goals while managing to provide another three assists in the process.
