Man United eye £51m Juventus raid

Manchester United are ready to make a £51m double January move for Juventus pair Arturo Vidal and Angelo Ogbonna, according to reports from CalcioMercato.

Despite having spent over £150m during the last transfer window, Louis van Gaal is expected to be given more funds to invest in his squad with the aim of getting back into the Champions League.

The Dutchman wants to use £51m of the cash available to bolster his midfield and defence, with the Juve double act seen as ideal additions.

United chased Vidal for much of the summer, but despite claims that a deal was all but done for the Chilean, he remained in Turin.

Kevin Strootman of Roma has since been mentioned as the new top target, but LVG is understood to have maintained a genuine interested in the South American – who is considered to be one of the very best box-to-box midfielders around.

Ogbonna is also a target as Van Gaal looks to bulk out his threadbare backline.

A lack of additions in the area allied to the exits of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic has led to Tyler Blackett and Paddy McNair being parachuted into the first-team, which has contributed to a below par start to the campaign.

Ogbonna is a powerful centre-back who is seen as the right man to add some authority to United’s rearguard.
