Man United eye big money Vidic replacement

Manchester United manager David Moyes is ready to replace Nemanja Vidic with Porto’s Eliaquim Mangala this summer, according to reports from The Express.

The Red Devils are known to be in the market for a new centre-back ahead of the off-season, with their iconic captain having already agreed a free transfer to Inter Milan.

Mangala has long been mooted as a target, and it now appears that United are ready to up their interest after Moyes sent trusted scout Robbie Cook to assess the 23-year-old.

The young Frenchman is currently seen as one of Europe’s top defenders, and is believed to be on the radars of a number of big clubs – such as Manchester City.

But Moyes is hopeful that he can snap up the £38m-rated man this summer as he plans to build his side ahead of next season.

City failed with a late January move for Mangala after baulking at his valuation, but it is understood that the Old Trafford side are more eager to pay big with Moyes possessing a supposed budget of over £100m.

A deal for Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho is reported to have also been agreed, while Toni Kroos and Luke Shaw are believed to be priorities heading into the next window.
