Manchester United are keen to sign Southampton left-back Ryan Bertrand during this month’s transfer window, according to the Daily Star.
Manager Louis van Gaal has seen first-choice Luke Shaw suffer a horrific double leg break injury, as well as replacement Ashley Young fall victim to a serious groin issue.
The berth is now starting to become somewhat of a problem for the Red Devils, who have reportedly turned their attentions to the South Coast.
Ironically enough, Bertrand was the man Saints drafted in after the aforementioned Shaw was prized away to Old Trafford for £31.5m in 2014.
The 26-year old has established himself as one of the most solid operators in the Premier League at St. Mary’s since joining from Chelsea.
He has earned a recall to the England squad ahead of Euro 2016 and even won the Champions League while with the Blues, so has a wealth of top level experience.
The Daily Star claims van Gaal is a ‘big fan’ of the former Gillingham trainee, though would have to bid in excess of £20m to prize him away from Southampton.
