Man United eyeing up move for free agent as they look to bolster goalie options

Metro are reporting that free agent Sergio Romero is set to have a medical with Manchester United after accepting a move to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have been negotiating with the Argentine goalkeeper over the past few days, as United boss Louis van Gaal looks to strengthen his options in goal.

With current United no.1 David De Gea’s future at the club still in the air as speculation on a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid persist – not to mention Van Gaal’s proclamation earlier this week that backup keeper Victor Valdes will be sold this summer – the club are believed to be in the market for a new shot-stopper ahead of the new campaign.

Despite rival interest from Serie A side Roma, it is understood that Romero prefers to move to United and will soon have a medical before signing.

The 28-year-old is a free agent after leaving Sampdoria last month and has previously worked with Van Gaal at Dutch outfit AZ Alkmaar.
