Man United facing £36.2m spend for brilliant international

Manchester United will have to pay around £36.2m if they want to sign Nicolas Otamendi this summer, with reports from Plaza Deportiva claiming Valencia are playing hardball over the future of their star centre-back.

The Argentina international is currently away at the Copa America in his home continent, but rumours of a switch to Old Trafford have gathered pace.

Louis van Gaal is though to see him as a good option as he sets about adding a commanding enforcer to his ranks, but he may have to cough up plenty of cash to push through a deal.

Reports suggest that Valencia will only do business if his €50m (£36.2m) release clause is triggered, with the Spaniards keen to keep hold of their man – who played a key role in Los Che’s top four finish last term.

The Mestalla outfit are no longer the financially stricken side they were a matter of years ago, with the money of billionaire businessman Peter Lim having saved them from the brink of ruin.
