Manchester United thumped Newcastle United 4-1 on Boxing Day and youngster Mason Greenwood was in the thick of the action.

The 18-year-old netted in the 36th minute to put his side into the lead after initially going behind to a Matty Longstaff strike and finished the match with a further two key passes, three dribbles and two tackles to his name.

Needless to say, United fans were left drooling over the teenager throughout the course of the match and after the full-time whistle, with some of the terminology used to describe him including "unreal", "amazing", "brilliant" and "exciting", while one supporter dubbed him a "generational talent".

And it seems that Greenwood is already drawing comparisons with a Premier League icon in Robin van Persie, who famously fired the Red Devils to the title in 2012/13.

Fans have commented on the similarities in their movement and finishing - Greenwood's strike against the Magpies was certainly reminiscent of the Dutchman's technique - while one has even pointed out that their names contain the same number of letters.

Of course, Greenwood has some way to go before he matches the status of a player who scored 144 Premier League goals, as well as amassing 65 assists, but the early signs are certainly encouraging.

Still just 18, Greenwood already has seven strikes for United to his name, including three in the Premier League.
