According to reports in The Mirror, Manchester United are lining up a £40m summer bid for Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane as Jose Mourinho looks to be reunited with a player he managed during his spell at the Bernabeu, and Red Devils fans have been quick to have their say on the rumour.
The Mirror says that Real are willing to sell the £50m-rated defender at the end of the season, with Mourinho keen to bring him to Old Trafford as he looks to strengthen his backline ahead of the 2018/19 campaign, and it could be a really busy summer with the Portuguese boss also being linked with a double swoop for Marco Verratti and Toni Kroos.
The 24-year-old certainly has plenty of experience of playing at the top level in La Liga, the Champions League and for France, and his arrival could seal exits for the likes of Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Victor Lindelof this summer.
Man United supporters took to social media to give their thoughts on the story, and while one said they “would prefer Umtiti or Toby”, another said “get him and then get me Dybala too”.
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
Madrid won't sell

He’s brilliant but who would wanna leave Madrid for this United team?

Hope if it goes through he adapts to the PL okay, not always the case. Alderweireld would be a safer option. Already proven in the league

He would be perfect for us.

Signing Raphael Varane is like signing another Chris Smalling that speaks French.
