Roma boss Paulo Fonseca has revealed that he wants his club to sign Manchester United defender Chris Smalling on a permanent deal this summer.

Smalling is currently on loan at Roma having been deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.

The 30-year-old has made 26 appearances for the Italian side in all competitions, including each of their last nine in Serie A.

Fonseca told Sky Sports News that he wants the Englishman to sign on a permanent deal, and a number of United fans have been reacting to the situation.

Some are not overly pleased.

However, others are seemingly extremely open to the idea of the former Fulham youngster leaving Old Trafford on a full-time deal during this summer's transfer window.

As it stands, Smalling will head back to United this summer with the view to potentially competing for a spot in the team leading into the 2020/21 campaign.

However, Fonseca's revelation that Roma do want to sign him on a permanent deal means that it will be extremely interesting to see what occurs.

Meanwhile, a number of United fans were furious with one player's performance in Sunday's 3-0 win over Watford in the Premier League.
