Villarreal winger Denis Cheryshev impressed and scored twice having come on a first-half substitute in Russia's brilliant 5-0 win against Saudi Arabia in their opening 2018 World Cup match on Thursday, and Manchester United fans have urged their club to sign the 27-year-old.

Despite playing for Sevilla, Valencia and Real Madrid during his career, it has dwindled since he left the Bernabeu and he played just 920 minutes of La Liga football across 24 appearances – the majority of which came from the substitutes' bench – for Villarreal last term.

However, his brace against Saudi Arabia came in the form of a brilliant feint and finish, before the 27-year-old, who would compete with Alexis Sanchez and Anthony Martial for a spot on the left wing if he did move to Old Trafford, curled the ball into the top corner with the outside of his left boot in second-half injury-time.

Man United supporters, the majority of whom feel that a £27m-rated left-back would be a huge upgrade on Ashley Young, were quick to have their say on Cheryshev's display via social media, and while one said "sign him up Jose", another said "announce Cheryshev".
