According to reports in the Sunday Mirror, Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti, rated at £63m by Transfermarkt, is on Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho’s list of summer transfer targets, and Red Devils fans believe he could be the missing piece of the jigsaw in the centre of the park.
The Sunday Mirror reports that the Portuguese manager has lost patience with club-record signing Paul Pogba and is ready to sell him at the end of the season, and while Real Madrid star Toni Kroos is his top target to replace the Frenchman, Verratti is named as the back-up option – however, other reports have suggested he could even sign both players, who are rated at £135m.
The 25-year-old was in the XI for Italy in their 2-0 friendly defeat against Argentina on Friday night, although he was replaced in the 72nd minute after suffering an injury.
Man United supporters have been quick to have their say on the PSG man via social media, and while one described him as “a modern day Roy Keane”, another said “Verratti is what we need”.
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
Point well made Sam. Although arguably we need a Carrick (Jorginho) & Scholes (Verratti) in there to play make & get the ball forward. Current triangle of Smalling, Matic & McT has nowhere near the ability of Rio, Carrick & Scholes at dominating play & moving ball to attackers

For me, Verratti would be the closer thing Man United could get to signing a ‘modern day’ Roy Keane. https://t.co/C6I4jbT9q4
